The Department of Natural Resources Management (DNRM) was established in September 2000 as part of Ethiopia’s Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ATVET) program, launched by the Ministry of Agriculture. Its primary objective is to train extension agents (development agents) to support sustainable agricultural development across the country.

As one of the pioneering departments at Kombolcha Agricultural College, the department is dedicated to teaching and training students, conducting research, and providing community service. Its focus is on the sustainable use, conservation, and protection of natural resources, including land, water, forests, wildlife, and minerals.

Programs in the Department of Natural Resources Management

Since its establishment, the Department of Natural Resource and Management has played a key role in contributing its share for the agricultural sector, and is engaged in producing well-trained professionals with bachelor degree and middle level agricultural practitioners (diploma level) and  lately,  level-based trainings ( Level I – IV) to meet the immediate needs of the sector.

• The 4 – year degree level training was officially launched in 2009 when the college was affiliated with Wollo University, expanding its academic programs to offer a Bachelor of Science degree aimed at upgrading diploma-level development agents. This program is conducted in regular admission basis. Currently, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Labor and Skills, the department also offers level-based training (Levels I–IV) through regular program,
• Besides the regular program, the department admit and train students on level-basis (Levels I– Level IV) aimed at providing opportunities for individuals interested in the field of natural resource management.
